This is a pretty simple one. Greece is a sea-faring nation so it should be no surprise that many Greek recipes are seafood related. All the ingredients should be pretty much accessible with the exception of garos. Garos was a type of strong sauce extracted from fish using salt. The only modern variations of the ancient Greek garos is the Thai Nam Pla and the Vietnamese Nwok Mwam, both of which can be found in your local Asian grocery stores. The key to this recipe is double saturation. Here it is as follows:
Ingredients:
8 oz Cooked shrimp (if frozen, be sure to thaw then cook), can be small or big shrimp from any grocery store or fish market
1 tablespoon of honey
1 tablespoon of garos or Asian sauce
1 tablespoon of oregano
1 tablespoon of olive oil
black pepper
Mix the oil, honey and garos and mix in the shrimp. Let the juices soak in the shrimp for 2-3 minutes. Keep the shrimp warm in an oven or microwave as you boil the rest of the sauce to a simmer. When the sauce looks good and ready, glaze the sauce over the shrimp and add oregano and pepper. Increase tablespoons and amount of shrimp if you desire larger servings. Serve with your favorite side dish.
Simple enough. A small taste of ancient history. Enjoy.
